Donald Norman Biography

Donald Norman is a man who desires the simplification of the application of science through extremely productive machines. Armed with his MIT degree in electrical engineering in 1957, Norman pursued the study of computers at the University of Pennsylvania, but due to the unavailability of computers at the university at the time, he shifted his focus back to electrical engineering, earning an M.S. and then to psychology to earn a PhD in 1962.

He subsequently spent four years at Harvard University’s Centre for Cognitive Studies and then joined University of California San Diego’s department of psychology. The transition from the field of computers to the human brain equipped Norman with a unique combination which was applicable in the study of design. He has subsequently moved his focus towards the study of aviation safety and computers.
