She has actively been an on-board penguin expert to guide the visitors on the cruise ships that headed to the Galapagos Islands and Antartica. She has educated a population of almost 250,000 people in America and abroad about the nature of penguins. One of her greatest life achievements is when she travelled to South Africa as part of an international team of experts who volunteered to rescue 40,000 penguins from oil leakage in their habitat. It took three long months with 556,000 labor hours to accomplish the rehabilitation attempt of 95 penguins. This event was a huge success due to the volume of rescue and success rate and marked the history of being the largest number of a single species to be rescued and sent back into the wild.

The rights to one of Dyan’s books about this historic moment have been bought by Free Press. According to Dyan, her role in the rescue of this creature was not just a challenge but a moment of a lifetime for her.
