Matthew Rushworth Biography

Matthew Rushworth is a Research Fellow in the Department of Experimental Psychology and Centre for Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Brain (FMRIB) University of Oxford UK. He has previously worked in London and in Montreal. In 2014 he investigated the neuroanatomy supporting our human language faculty, focussing specifically on the relatively unexplored temporal lobe of the human brain. His work has been concerned with the operation of neural circuits in prefrontal and cingulate cortex when decisions are being taken; and understanding functional interactions between brain areas during decision making and the anatomical connections that mediate those functional interactions. He has studied the neural mechanisms of human communication and worked as a postdoc in the Intention & Action group headed in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
