Ron Bloom Biography

Ron Bloom is a former organizer, negotiator, and research specialist for the Service Employees International Union and a senior official in the Obama Administration from 2009 to 2011. Ron received an MBA from the Harvard Business School and subsequently spent the next decade as an investment banker: from 1985-90 at Lazard Freres & Co., a financial advisory and asset management firm, and from 1990-96 at Keilin & Bloom, an investment advisory firm in New York. Ron started working for the political organizing group the Jewish Labor Committee before joining the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). At SEIU, Bloom came to the conclusion that unions lacked the technical skills to negotiate with management teams and their advisers at the bargaining table. Ron supports federal-government control of the American health-care system. In February 2012, Bloom become a senior adviser to Lazard. The investment bank, said Mr. Bloom would provide strategic advice to the firm and its clients.
