Wael Ghonim Biography

Wael Ghonim is a computer engineer and online activist. He is of Egyptian heritage and currently lives in San Francisco California. Ghonim became a global figure after his incarceration in Egypt in 2011. His arrest helped to intensify pro-democracy protests in the country at the time. He has won numerous awards, including being named to Time Magazine’s Time 100 list of its top influential people in 2011. He was also named to the World Economic Forum’s list of top young global leaders in 2012. Ghonim works at Harvard as a non-resident senior fellow in its Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation center.
